
Mia Hamant, a beloved junior at the University of Washington, passed away at the age of 21 after a courageous battle with a rare form of kidney cancer. Known for her strength, talent, and infectious spirit, Mia touched the lives of countless teammates, classmates, and friends within the UW community and beyond.
Mia was a standout goalkeeper for the University of Washington women’s soccer team, where her dedication, leadership, and resilience made her an inspiration to all who knew her. Her athletic ability was matched by her unwavering commitment to teamwork and perseverance—traits that defined her both on and off the field. She was recognized not only for her quick reflexes and sharp instincts as an athlete but also for her compassion and positivity, which uplifted those around her even during the most difficult times.

A proud Washington native, Mia was pursuing her studies with focus and ambition, balancing the demands of academics and athletics with grace. Her professors and peers admired her drive, intelligence, and willingness to lend a helping hand. She embodied the Husky spirit—courageous, determined, and full of heart.
Outside of soccer, Mia loved spending time outdoors, exploring the Pacific Northwest with her family and friends, and sharing moments of laughter and joy that will forever be cherished.
